Water Filtration Reduces Costs

Good morning!

Move aside spam calls, a new scam is in town: water testing. Reports from Bristol, CT warn that people are traveling door-to-door claiming that drinking water is contaminated when officials confirm it isn’t.

Alright, now for the rest of the news.

Water Filtration Reduces Costs

R2J Chemical Services is making the case that commercial operations might be flushing money down the drain by overlooking water quality. Their latest blog post explains how high-efficiency filtration systems cut operating costs across all business types. The team points out several expensive problems caused by poor water: scale buildup that makes equipment less efficient, corrosion that leads to system breakdowns, higher energy bills from mineral deposits affecting heating and cooling, and costly downtime when systems need repairs. According to R2J, good filtration systems make equipment last longer, lower energy costs by improving how systems transfer heat, reduce maintenance breaks, and deliver cleaner water for important processes in healthcare, restaurants, and factories.

Benefits of Hard Water Filtration

Pure Water Solutions highlights the clear benefits of installing hard water filtration systems in their latest article. According to the team, filtration systems remove minerals that cause visible problems throughout homes— chalky residue on fixtures, soap scum buildup in showers, and premature fading and roughening of laundry. The team also notes that while hard water isn't linked to negative health effects, it can strip natural oils from skin and hair, leading to dryness and potential hair loss. They even point out that certain minerals in hard water may worsen digestive issues (like diarrhea) due to laxative properties. This breakdown is a good example of addressing everyday pain points with straightforward filtration solutions.

World Water Day 2025

Happy World Water Day! NSF teamed up with WCP Online to sound the alarm about rapidly melting glaciers for World Water Day, which takes place each March 22nd. Their report highlights that glaciers store about 75% of Earth's freshwater (which itself makes up only 2.5% of all water), making their preservation critical for the water industry. Recent data shows climate change sliced the equivalent of 94 feet of ice off reference glaciers in just two years. The NSF team outlines three key strategies for water treatment professionals: improving sustainability through waste reduction and environmental goal-setting, educating consumers about water recycling safety standards like EPA guidelines and NSF/ANSI 350, and providing clear eco-labels and environmental impact information to help customers make better choices.

Greene County’s Switch to Soft Water

Greene County (near Dayton, OH) has completed a major shift to providing softer water through its municipal system. The county's new $49 million reverse osmosis infrastructure project, installed two months ago, has dramatically reduced water hardness from 27 grains per gallon to just 8 grains (140 mg/L of calcium carbonate). County officials are now warning residents with home water softeners to either bypass their systems entirely or recalibrate them to the new baseline hardness level. Mark Chandler, Sanitary Engineering Director, explained the change was necessary due to the region's limestone-rich aquifers that naturally produce hard water. Officials emphasize that over-softening already treated water could damage home plumbing and fixtures, requiring home owners and water treaters to properly adjust their systems.
