Happy Monday!

And happy New Year to those who celebrate. Friendly reminder that it’s not too late to set resolutions that you plan to break immediately after setting them.

Alright, now for the news.

Family-Based Water Business

HQ Water Solutions, a Lancaster, PA-based water conditioning company has turned its family foundation into serious business growth, according to a new profile from WCP Online. Founded in 2020 by Jordan and Stephen Evangelista, the company has quintupled its business (yup you read that write) and racked up 80+ positive reviews in just three years. Their work landed them SCORE Lancaster-Lebanon's 2023 Small Business Development Award.

The husband-wife duo splits the duties: Stephen, a former industrial water treatment project manager, handles operations, while Jordan manages business development and digital presence. The company offers water filtration and softening systems across Lancaster County's agricultural and urban regions, providing free water analyses through Simple Labs to test for hardness, iron, pH, and other factors. They've recently expanded their team by bringing on an experienced technician, and also stay part of the community by participating in local events, parades, and community sponsorships.

Water Purification in Space

WCP Online posted their Global Spotlight article overviewing recent advancements and announcements in the industry, and one in particular caught our eye. University of Colorado Boulder researchers have secured NASA funding for their innovative membrane filtration technology, designed with future moon bases in mind. The technique forces pressurized water to evaporate through an aerated membrane at just 100 nanometers (160 times smaller than a human hair), making it significantly more compact than traditional filtration systems. The researchers, backed by a NASA Small Business Innovation Award grant, see potential applications beyond space exploration.

Water Treatment Trends in 2025

Florida-based H2O Systems Inc. wrote about trends for 2025 and why they think water treatment is getting a high-tech makeover. They predict smart filtration systems will lead the charge by offering homeowners mobile app control and real-time monitoring of their water quality. They also highlight a growing focus on eco-friendly solutions with energy-efficient units and lower chemical usage, while noting that hybrid systems combining RO and UV tech are raising the bar for contaminant removal. According to the team, health-conscious consumers are driving demand for systems targeting PFAS and pharmaceuticals, and whole-home treatment systems are becoming the new standard. They report that on the commercial front, businesses are investing in custom water solutions to boost efficiency and meet stricter safety standards.

Changing Landscape of Legionella

Legionella, the bacteria behind Legionnaires' disease that loves hanging out in warm, stagnant water, is reshaping water treatment approaches, reports founder of Canopus Water Technologies. Traditional chlorine treatments are being sidelined as facilities increasingly use filtration systems that remove disinfectants—but this creates a new problem with bacterial growth in water lines and fixtures. In response, the industry is adopting UVC LED-based point-of-use systems that hit 99.9999% bacteria reduction rates. These systems pack some notable features: instant on-off operation, compact design, and consistent performance across temperatures, all without mercury or fouling issues. The shift is happening across multiple sectors, from healthcare facilities to hotels, with a particular focus on office buildings where remote work has led to more stagnant water in pipes.
