Brothers Start Plumbing & Water Systems Company

Brothers Rand and Jade Koskiniemi are living the American dream with their new venture, Rock Creek LLC. The newly formed company will focus on water treatment systems and related plumbing work in the Seattle, WA region.

This week the YouTube algorithm blessed us with this gem where some guy installed a 30,000 gallon metal tank in his backyard so that he can run his entire house on rainwater.

And honestly, it was pretty sweet! It was entertaining hearing about why he did it, how much it cost, and which filters he set up to make it work.

Alright, now to the real news.

Brothers Start Plumbing & Water Systems Company

Brothers Rand and Jade Koskiniemi are living the American dream with their new venture, Rock Creek LLC. The newly formed company will focus on water treatment systems and related plumbing work in the Seattle, WA region. Rand, who started plumbing at 16, brings a rich experience to the table, including his journeyman plumber days and time spent with a plumber's union. And then there’s Jade who adds his six years of plumbing know-how. Together, they’re planning to provide top-notch water treatment services, like installing water heaters and filtration systems, which really sets them apart from typical plumbing outfits. What’s cool about their approach is their commitment to honest and fair business, and Rand points out their goal to avoid overcharging (like basically everything else in the Seattle area!). He says in the article: “We saw huge gaps in people paying $8,000 to $10,000 to put in filtration systems that cost only about $1,500. We are trying to fill that gap. We don’t agree with those sales tactics.”

Water Filter Guru Reviews Waterdrop G3

When Water Filter Guru talks, we listen, and the team just dropped a lengthy review of the Waterdrop G3, a tankless RO water filter that fits under your sink. It comes in two types, G3P600 and G3P800, priced between $539 and $999. In the review, Campbell (one of the site’s founders) focuses on the G3P800 model. His tests show that this model is great at cleaning water, reducing TDS by 82% and getting rid of harmful stuff like lead and fluoride. The G3's design is compact, saving space under the sink, but it doesn't have a filter to add minerals back into the water (though you can buy one separately). Despite its high price and tricky installation, Campbell recommends the unit. It's efficient, effective at removing contaminants, has handy tech features, but you don't get instant access to filtered water since it doesn't store water in a tank.

"Portable Exchange is Dead. Long Live Portable Exchange!" (Sponsor)

Much like Mark Twain's own misreported demise, rumors of Portable Exchange tanks' downfall are greatly exaggerated. But why is this old-school tech still creating waves? In areas where water regulations tighten their grip, these tanks prove indispensable. They're a lifeline for adherence to strict guidelines, offering sustainability, affordability, and flexibility in meeting diverse water treatment needs.

AM Products & Specialty Sales aren’t just riding the current—they're steering the ship with new, aggressively priced, stainless steel tanks that scoff at obsolescence. Pricing starts at a mere $259 for the robust 304 stainless, 9” x 44” tank-alone model, or $299 for a complete set brimming with essential fittings. Check out the full offering by clicking here!

Mythbusters, Water Filtration Edition

Not to be confused with “Mythbusters, Water Conditioning Edition” from two weeks ago, this week we have an article from SpringWell all about home water filtration. Here’s a few of the myths we found most interesting:

  • Myth - Boiled water is healthier than filtered water: Boiling water kills germs, but it doesn't remove harmful chemicals or heavy metals.

  • Myth - Refrigerator filters are enough to produce safe drinking water: Fridge filters are handy, but they mainly improve taste and smell. They can't filter out more serious contaminants like lead or pesticides.

  • Myth - Bottled water is purer than filtered tap water: Despite its clean image, bottled water often contains similar contaminants as tap water, including PFAS and microplastics.

  • Myth - Water with an ‘excellent’ or ‘good’ TDS level is safe: A TDS meter measures total dissolved solids but doesn't tell you about specific harmful contaminants in the water, like lead or pesticides.

  • Myth - Water filter pitchers have high-tech filters: While handy for improving taste and removing some contaminants, pitcher filters can't match the effectiveness of larger, more advanced filtration systems for serious contaminants.
